The Great Tour has been described as one of the last real cycling challenges as it consists of an approximate 7,000km circumnavigation of the island of Britain. A true cycling odyssey.
From 2026 onwards there will be an organised and fully supported ride which will promote the existence of this especially curated route, open to participants of all abilities who will be fund-raising and promoting awareness for a number of different charities. The intention is for the ride to not only become an annual charity event but also one which will promote cycle tourism and economic benefit for our much neglected coastal communities throughout the year by the provision of an app which will provide route information as well as details of accommodation, places of interest, coffee stops, bike hire, official bike shops and cycling guides.
On 5th July 2025 a small group will set off from Poole on a test ride on behalf of the RNLI who will be one of the principal charities involved and they will be visiting Lifeboat Stations along the route to gather content and conduct research as well as testing and defining the actual route.
The Great Tour is a “not-for-profit” organisation whose main objectives are to encourage cycle tourism both domestically and internationally as well as providing charities and good causes with a platform to amplify their objectives.
